Grand Canyon, AZ (January 12, 2024) – Outer Voices, the non profit media team that delivers first-person stories of place and culture from around the world, has signed a contract with the Grand Canyon Conservancy, the official nonprofit partner of the Grand Canyon
National Park. Funds have been awarded to Outer Voices to create an audio tour embedded into a story map of the Grand Canyon National Park as told by the people who are from the land the Park occupies. Funding comes in part as well from the National Endowment for the Humanities through the National Park Foundation Storytelling Grant.

Following their first, innovative audio tour of the island of St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, titled Here, St. John, this project is the second by Outer Voices in conjunction with a United States National Park and with the people who are from the lands each Park occupies.

To be titled Here, Grand Canyon, the audio tour producers will take existing and new audio and video footage as well as still photography to share stories of the people who have lived and continue to live there, told by voices authentic to the area. In producing Here, Grand Canyon, Outer Voices will collaborate with Grand Canyon National Park staff and members of all 11 tribes that call the Grand Canyon home. The full project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Outer Voices’ work has been broadcast on over 600 radio stations in the U.S. and abroad and used in high school and college classrooms. Executive Producer Stephanie Guyer-Stevens has created multimedia for Center for Investigative Reporting (Reveal), Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, Transom and NPR, and has received a Gracie Allen Award for Outstanding Documentary. She is co-author, with Dr. Françoise Pommaret, of the book “Divine Messengers: The Untold Story of Bhutan’s Female Shamans” (Shambhala, 2021). Sara Washington Goggin will serve as an Editor on the project. Washington Goggin is a documentary media artist and videographer at
Bloomberg. Her work has been featured on DesignSponge, Food52, and the California Health Report. Stellwagen Symphonette will produce the final mix, featuring music from tribal members. Washington Goggin is a documentary media artist and videographer at Bloomberg.  Following its completion, Here, Grand Canyon will be accessible both when touring the Grand Canyon as well as by those who wish to explore it from home.
